We have lost Aleksandr Lazarevich Al'pert, an eminent organizer of CC events and an excellent man. I always thought that people who can play chess have likely a logical thinking.
However, I frequently met strong chess players both in OTB and correspondence events who did not have this skill.
When I started to get in contact with Al'pert I immediately understood that Aleksandr Lazarevich possessed a unique gift of reasoning sensibly
and an ability to go deep into subtle parts of cobwebs of different documents to bring the essence of the matter to light
and to make it clear to another people.
It was a pleasure as well as instructively to discuss with him any questions on interpretation of playing rules or an accident appeared in a postal event.
Al'pert could argue in favour of his idea but he always would listen to his partner and be willing to understand his opinion. It always made an impression on me.
Aleksandr Lazarevich was a kind and responsive man.
May his memory live forever ... We remember and grieve. It is an enormous bereavement for RCCA. First-rate talented organizer of correspondence chess in Russia, gifted, comprehensively educated man,
a big friend of all CC players throughout the world and a strong ICCF International Master has passed away.
I am shocked by his absurd, premature death. I don't want to believe Aleksandr Lazarevich has left us and will never be next to us again.
He has become like an brother to me. I bow my head. We have lost a man who had done a huge amount of work for development of correspondence chess in Russia.
He was a true person of ready sympathy. He has done a lot of work for RCCA and helped very much to Belarus' CC players. Such a person will be always remembered. We realize how irreplaceable this loss of a man of high reputation is. Aleksandr, thank you very much for all you haveve done! I wish all Russian CC players to endure this lost with courage. We have to save and enlarge all achievements attained by Aleksandr Lazarevich. We will always remember you, Aleksandr Lazarevich. Now we have your hard work to do ... A very good person has passed away. I wasn't familiar with Aleksandr Lazarevich personally but have had been in good contact with him via email.
I was surprised again and again what kind of rare benevolence and competence he had.
He hardly let a single question asked to him unanswered, tried always to find time to answer in spite of his usual business.
Till his last days he maintained his strength as a strong OTB player. I frequently played with him and was beaten
mercilessly. It is a pity that such a splendid man and chess player has left us. |
